Canucks lose Tanev to ankle injury, Brisebois to make NHL debut

The Vancouver Canucks positioned defenceman Chris Tanev on the wounded reserve Thursday.

Tanev appears to have wounded his ankle on a collision with Anaheim Ducks’ captain Ryan Getzlaf early in the 3rd-period of Vancouver’s Wednesday evening shutout loss to their Pacific Division rivals. Tanev left the video game just after the incident, and is previously headed back to Vancouver, head coach Travis Environmentally friendly explained.

The loss of Tanev, the Canucks’ steadiest defender on the back-close and their optimum use selection on the appropriate aspect, is a different significant blow to Vancouver’s admittedly slender playoff hopes. The club presently sits just two factors out of the next wild card location, which is promising, but they’ll be in tricky to continue being in playoff rivalry without having their two ideal defencemen, and there is minimal place for error at this position. A loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday evening would go away them just 4 factors out of final-place in the Western Meeting.

Worse, if the Canucks do tumble out of rivalry and decide to promote off assets at the deadline afterwards this month, Tanev is arguably their most attractive piece. If he’s out for an extended period of time, that takes him off the desk.

But which is casting far too significantly ahead. The Canucks’ issues are far more immediate.

Even with Tanev and Edler, the Canucks’ blueline, unchanged despite proof final time that they weren’t fantastic adequate, has been a lead to for worry. Ben Hutton and Troy Stecher have demonstrated advancement, but Erik Gudbranson and Derrick Pouliot have failed all time to make a scenario for major-4 responsibility, and now they’ll be thrust into the role in spite of by themselves.

Meanwhile, Tanev’s injuries clears the route for Utica Comets’ callup Guillaume Brisebois to make his NHL debut. Brisebois, 21, has 2 plans and 7 help in 49 online games for the Canucks’ AHL affiliate.

The Canucks are also suffering a rash of accidents to their forwards. Sven Baertschi carries on to battle concussion concerns, Brandon Sutter is out at the very least two months with a groin injuries, and Jake Virtanen is now out with an higher-entire body ailment following a strike from Ryan Getzlaf as perfectly.

Still, the coach selected to glance on the vibrant aspect when he spoke to assembled media on Thursday.

“When you’ve got 5 men out of the lineup, it is not the best predicament, but it is a fantastic opportunity for the other men,” Environmentally friendly explained.

Nikolay Goldobin, a frequent wholesome scratch of late, will be back in the lineup Thursday night as perfectly.
